Esistono anche le buone notizie
In Italia credo non se ne sia accorto nessuno. Negli USA non e’ andata molto meglio.
A richiamare la nostra attenzione distratta, sulle colonne del New YorkTimes, e’ stato l’editorialista David Brooks: esistono anche buone notizie e ne e’ appena uscita una.
La Banca Mondiale la scorsa settimana ha diffuso un rapporto dal quale emerge che la crescita globale ha avuto una “netta accelerazione” quest’anno, pari a circa il 4%. Siamo nell’11/o mese consecutivo piu’ prospero nella storia dell’umanita’. Soprattutto, sono le nazioni in via di sviluppo e piu’povere a condurre le statistiche della crescita: quest’anno le loro economie sono cresciute del 6,1%.
Il mondo in via di sviluppo sta crescendo piu’ in fretta in questo decennio di quanto non accadesse negli anni ‘80 o ‘90. Le persone che nel mondo vivevano con meno di 1 dollaro al giorno, nel 1990 erano nell’Asia orientale e nella regione del Pacifico 472 milioni, sono diventati 271 milioni nel 2001 e a questi ritmi saranno 19 milioni entro il 2015. Cali nella poverta’avvengono un po’ dovunque, con la drammatica eccezione dell’Africa sub-sahariana, che resta la vera sfida planetaria.
Cosa significano i dati? Una cosa sola, per quanto scomoda per molti: la globalizzazione funziona, non c’e’ mai stata una cosi’ grande fetta della popolazione mondiale che facesse registrare passi in avanti di questa portata.
